ListenBrainz is the ARCHLab's preferred platform for tracking music habits. It’s an open-source, community-driven project that provides insights into your listening patterns without the privacy concerns of commercial alternatives.
While Navidrome handles the streaming, ListenBrainz handles the data. It turns your listening history into a social and analytical experience.
ListenBrainz uses the MusicBrainz database for its accounts.
To start generating statistics, you must "Scrobble" (send) your play data to the service. I have a dedicated guide for our internal stack:
Technical Guide: Connecting Navidrome to ListenBrainz
| Feature | Description |
|---|---|
| Year in Music | A massive end-of-year breakdown of your listening habits. |
| BrainzPlayer | Link your Spotify or YouTube to play your ListenBrainz playlists directly in the browser. |
| CritiqueBrainz | Review your favorite albums and have those reviews show up on your profile. |
| Radio | Create a personal "Radio Station" based on your top tracks. |
Is my data private?
By default, listen data is public to allow for "Neighbor" matching, but you can set your profile to private in the settings at any time.
Can I import my old Last.fm data?
Yes! ListenBrainz has a built-in tool to import your entire history from Last.fm so you don't have to start from zero.
Next Step: Configure Scrobbling
